🎯 When commitment means immersion
Traveling just to tick a box ? Not for William, 23, a student passionate about technology and knowledge-sharing.
What he was looking for : a truly human, professional, and cultural adventure.
And that’s exactly what he found thanks to our Cap sur le Ghanaprogram.
“When I saw that Sailing Stone offered a professional immersion in an English-speaking African country, I knew it was meant for me.” William
Originally from Cameroon, William wanted to compare Francophone and Anglophone approaches, step out of his comfort zone, practice his English… and of course, try the legendary Ghanaian jollof rice (spoiler: he did, and he loved it).
🤖 Immersion at The MakersPlace : Tech to Empower the Youth
William completed his internship at MakersPlace, a Ghanaian organization that introduces young people to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) through creative and hands-on workshops.
His mission: to use his technical skills (electronics, Arduino, coding…) to accompany and facilitate workshops with young people, sometimes very young, with pedagogy and passion.
“I loved sharing what I know with kids. Some were under 13… and they picked things up so fast!” — William
💬 A human adventure… and linguistics
Like many participants, William had a few concerns before taking off: the language, the environment, the heat… But once there, everything quickly fell into place.
Thanks to the support of the Sailing Stone team and the warm welcome of Ghanaians, he found his footing in no time.
“I even learned a few words in Twi to joke around with my colleagues. They laughed more than applauded, but it broke the ice!” — William
💡 What he took away
William walks away with unforgettable memories: the people he met, the knowledge he shared, the sense of purpose, and the vibrant vibe of Accra.
“What did I love most? The MakersPlace atmosphere, how kind everyone was, my fellow interns, the kelewele… everything! Even the traffic jams — it’s all part of the charm.” — William
